Resolutions

Happy new year! I hope the beginning of 2013 has been all shiny and new and good to you. It has been good for us minus the snotty noses and coughs we've been battling since way back in 2012. This shit is lingering and I am hoping it hits the road sometime before Spring.

This is the time of year when all the talk is about new year resolutions. I think lots of people make some sort of personal goal and then fail miserably at said goal by mid-February. It is easy to make a resolution to get to the gym more in the drunken last minutes of the year only to realize come mid-February, when it is all cold and ugly out, that staying home on the couch in your sweatpants is really more of a reality for you.

I admire your lofty aspirations. I hate all the people on the treadmills at the gym, but I can appreciate the effort. I can wait out the crowd to get my favorite treadmill back come mid-February.

I have never been a big resolution kind of girl. I don't have much self-control and there is a reason I do the things I do (or don't do), I want to. So changing all that would take a whole lot more effort than I generally have to spare.

A few days ago I got a text from a dear friend wishing me a happy new year and going on to explain all her resolutions. They were lofty, inspiring really and for her, at this point in her life, probably very doable. They were about career moves and babies, all very positive things.

She then asked me what my resolutions were. After a few seconds of thought, these are my resolutions for 2013.

1. Don't kill my children. This sounds ridiculous and easy even, but really when you have two small boy children driving you crazy most of the time it is a total act of God that they are alive at the end of the day. P.S. I love them so much, I swear.

2. Stay happily married. This is a constant work in progress and I feel like we've come this far, I can't slack on this one. I am lucky to be married to that boy so I will continue to work my ass off so I can wake up every day of 2013 loving him.

3. No surgeries. 2012 sucked for us in terms of medical crap. Joey had to have a surgery and I had to undergo not one, but two, hernia surgeries. I would love for all of us to stay out of the operating room this year.

4. Move. We sold our house at the end of last year and then the deal fell through. I am hoping we are able to sell our home and find a new home in our area. We are ready for this change.

5. Have my pants fit at the end of the year. If at the end of 2013 my pants still fit, I will consider the year a win. I was able to get through 2012 with pants that still fit (despite taking a whole lot of time off from the gym for above mentioned surgeries) and I would like to end 2013 the same way. Since I am not planning on giving up cookies or my chai tea lattes, this one could be tough.

That's it. They aren't super inspiring goals, but I can assure you there will be times they are tough to keep. Whatever your resolutions were for 2013, I wish you the best of luck. No worries if it was the gym and you are already on the couch in sweatpants, I won't judge.

Happy 2013!
